Truck-mad Alfie Simcox, a year 5 pupil at Shavington Primary School - part of the Learning for Life Partnership -, has used his photography skills to raise more than £10,000 for charity.
Alfie's passion for photography trucks began during the Covid-19 lockdown and has grown ever since. He visits the M6 three times a week to take photographs of the trucks that drive down the motorway and is now a mini celebrity amongst the truckers who drive pass him.
As he stands on the bridge to take photographs he is often greeted with beeping and flashing lights by friendly truckers who recognise him.
His photography has become very popular on social media, garnering him thousands of fans. Alfie has subsequently created calendars using his photographs and has so far raised over £10,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
He decided to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease after a family friend, Stephen Newton, received a diagnosis of the disease in 2016. Stephen has since expressed gratitude to Alfie for raising the money, which will go towards funding research of motor neurone disease and assisting those who suffer from the disease.
Alfie has described how his photography of trucks makes him feel "happy", whilst his mum, Steph Simcox, has described him as "selfless".
Rachael Nicholls, Headteacher at Shavington Primary School, said: "The whole school is very proud of Alfie and what he has achieved. He is a role model to all his peers, and through his motivation and curiosity, is embodying everything we hope to stand for as a school.
We are all very happy to celebrate Alfie's wonderful achievement, and we will continue to support him in it."
