It's been described as 'the jewel in the crown of the North West' in years gone by and now a campaign led by the city's Business improvement District is aiming to add even more sparkle to Chester this Valentine's Day.

A host of city centre jewellers have already signed up to the 'Sparkle in Chester' campaign created by CH1ChesterBID, which is aimed at promoting the wide range of independent, boutique, high street and luxury jewellers on offer throughout Chester.

They include stores such as Boodles, Beaverbrook’s, Swarovski and Lowe & Sons, plus 15 other retailers, all of which can be found within Chester city centre.

As part of the campaign, the spotlight will be on different stores in the run up to the big day with several of them offering top tips on the perfect Valentine's day presents, highlighting the extensive knowledge and range of specialist jewellery items available in Chester.

Judy Tagell, Marketing Manager at CH1ChesterBID, said: "Chester really is the perfect place to purchase a special gift for a loved one, so we wanted to create a special campaign that highlights all the fantastic jewellers we have in the city centre this Valentine's Day.

"Whether it's a bespoke engagement ring, a diamond necklace, an engraved bracelet or a pair of designer cufflinks or earrings, expert guidance is on hand everywhere you look in Chester - where else in the North West would you find so many amazing jewellers in such close proximity!

"The jewellers in Chester also have years of experience between them, with many of the independent retailers employing several generations of the same family. Their expertise covers all precious metals and gemstone collections so they're able to offer impeccable knowledge, recommendations and service to shoppers of all ages and budgets."

Chester has received international acclaim as a romantic destination, beating places such as Paris and Venice to be name done of Europe's most romantic cities by the readers of USA Today in 2012. More recently, it was voted one of the top five places in the UK to go for a romantic walk as part of a national survey by the charity Living Streets.

Lorraine Dare, Manager at Boodles in Chester, said: "Valentine's Day is the ultimate couple’s celebration and we're incredible lucky to be placed right in the heart of such a romantic city in Chester.

"At this time of year, we always see excited couples coming into our store, looking for an iconic piece of jewellery that will stay with them forever.

"Knowing that you're helping relationships blossom is a great feeling and something that our staff take great pride in, so we're hoping for another busy February of matchmaking in Chester again this year."
